Have you ever been in a shopping mall and there’s always that one store you wouldn’t be caught dead inside?

Every time you go there you feel like tool just browsing its products. Or you just feel old. Or like a cougar or a has been. It simply does not match your personality or the current stage in your life.

What about restaurants? There’s always that place that despite what the menu says…you know you are not eating chicken. A stray cat, maybe. Chicken? Don’t think so. You can’t understand how human beings can eat there.

On the other side, there are restaurants where you feel you are eating ART! And you haven’t even ordered yet. You could actually be eating CAT, and in your heart that’s the best chicken you’ve ever had! Both restaurant may serve exactly the same food, but from the moment you entered, the second restaurant just FEELS feels better.

Your brand visual identity is key to communicate your personality and uniqueness to your clients.

Most of the time this is the first contact your clients have with your brand and will tell them many things they need to know about you in a few seconds.  Your logo, your design elements, your color, and your typography carry with them a mood and a style that either attracts or repels your audience.

Now, this is not necessarily something you should be afraid. In fact, you should celebrate the polarizing nature of brand identity. Why?

Because this allows you to attract the right people and send the wrong people their way.

This becomes pretty obvious when you manage to identify the kind of project, people, or style of product you like to offer. Maybe, as a designer, you get bored of corporate projects while kids stuff makes you happy. Your restaurant might want to show it’s taste for home style cooking and you want your food to be a rich experience. You could be an interior decorator that loves to create luxurious spaces while vintage decoration sickens you. The correct visual branding identity will help these examples filter the right costumers for their services and products.

Watch the following examples and think of the mood these brands carry. Which of these examples feel similar to he personality of your brand? Do you think your visual identity reflects your brand?
